SAFE Block is a software-based write blocker computer forensics implement representing the Windows 2000 / XP Operating Systems. SAFE Block facilitates the quick and safe acquisition and / or study of evidence on any disk or flare storage media attached quickly to your forensic workstation. It has a uninvolved Windows GUI interface that allows the buyer the facility to chunk and un-block any disk or flare storage machine detected by Windows. Devices are listed in a tree by kind (USB, SCSI, IDE) and, where appropriate, by controller and canal. SAFE Block provides the facility to simultaneously write chunk as myriad disk devices as are connected to a computer without the need representing multiple valuable hardware write blocking devices. SAFE Block is employment independent and works with all forensic acquisition and study applications that race on Windows 2000 / XP. SAFE Block allows representing write blocked, Windows-based, disk imaging speeds that are significantly faster than imaging in Windows using commercially available hardware-based write blockers. SAFE Block identifies and provides access to Host Protected Areas (HPAs) and Device Configuration Overlay (DCOs) on IDE (PATA and SATA) disks, connected quickly via PATA or SATA controllers. HPAs are temporarily removed and assemble no permanent modification to the disk configuration, using volatile HPA commands. Since a DCO cannot be removed temporarily, SAFE Block preserves all DCO data, allowing safe murder of the DCO or HPA / DCO mixture, then upon fulfilment of the acquisition, replacement of the DCO or HPA / DCO mixture back to its original situation. SAFE Block provides natural write blocking of all quickly attached media, including IDE, SCSI, USB, and IEEE 1394. The buyer controls natural write blocking policies representing attached and / or removable disks.
